Marks the spot
Saturday, January 10: If there was any one band that defined the post-punk 1980s, it was John Doe and Exene Cervenka’s X. Tonight, the pair (married from 1980 to 85, which should make for some nice stage tension!) will perform at the Music Hall of Williamsburg. Expect a great show.
Flea market
Sunday, January 11: You browsed when they were outdoors, but now two dozen of the vendors who made Fort Greene’s “Brooklyn Flea” so much fun will be setting up in DUMBO every weekend through March. Organizers say that this condensed version will focus only on antiques and vintage stuff, including classic items like this 8-track tape player (pictured).
11 am–6 pm. Brooklyn Flea’s Winter Pop-Up Market [76 Front St., at Washington Street in DUMBO, (718) 935-1052].
Sing a song
Monday, January 12: The monthly singer-songwriter show at Southpaw is back with an even better lineup than before. Playing in the round will be organizer Rebecca Pronsky (pictured), Brooke Campbell, Stephen Claire and Lucy Wainwright Roche, whose pedigree includes dad Loudon Wainright and mom Suzzy Roche of the Roches.
Tower power
Wednesday, January 14: Look, we don’t usually send you to community board meetings, but this one is The Big One. Tonight, Community Board 2 will vote on David Walentas’s Dock Street tower. Opponents say it blocks views of the Brooklyn Bridge. Supporters say it doesn’t — and cheered Walentas for including a new public middle school and dozens of affordable units.
6 pm. Community Board 2 Dock Street vote. Borough Hall [209 Joralemon St., at Court Street in Downtown, (718) 596-5410].
Radio comic
Thursday, January 15: You love him on Air America Radio, and you love him on Letterman and Conan, so now you should catch comic Marc Maron — think Iggy Pop crossed with Woody Allen — in the flesh. And if that’s not enough incentive, his last tour was titled, “Comedy that makes you feel better about yourself and superior to others.” We like a stand-up who takes all the guilt away.
8 pm. Union Hall [702 Union St., between Fifth and Sixth avenues in Park Slope, (718) 638-4400]. $10.
